THE GANG TOURNAMENT Sunday 4.00 pm in Doggett's Bar. (Not the former Spice Island.) The highlight of the weekend! MAXIMUM 32 PLAYERS (Please pre-register) (Last updated: 04/11/2007) This format was invented by Zoe with the aid of Sean (who STILL has less trophies than Zoe but is catching up!) in 2004. There was a spare trophy on the Sunday evening and Zoe asked Mike what it was for. Mike replied that he had no idea but seeing as Zoe had asked that it was now in her charge to do with as she wished. Zoe took 16 Players names, put them in a hat and drew them out at random into 2 Teams. 1st names out of the hat were the Captains. Zoe said a 3 point Match was to be played. Mike held his head in his hands at how long this would take and how much noise was going to created! I shouldn't have worried - the match was a riot of fun and took (for just a 3 pointer) an hour and a half !!!! Since 2004 we had held The Gang Tournament every Sunday evening at Backgammon Live in London, the word has gone round that it's the best bit of the weekend and last year (starting at 7.00 pm) we had 22 players in two Teams! Unfortunately a high number of those players had to leave after Round 1 to get home so this year we have re-organised things to accommodate both them and the other players we expect to want to join in this great bit of fun and learning. We'll kick off the Gang Tournament at 4.00 pm Sunday. 32 players are invited to take part. There will be two 8 v 8 Player matches. The 16 that win will then be randomized again and play another 8 v 8 Player match!!! Not only that, also those that lose in Round 1 will play another (Consolation) 8 v 8 player match! That's 4 x 8 v 8 player Gang Matches this year! Consulting, Cheering Crying - all are considered commendable! Drinking helps too - to keep the voice working you understand! After that it'll be 2 x 4 v 4 player matches, 2 x 2 v 2 player matches and then the Finals (Main and Consolation.) There will be Optional Pools as well. Trophies for the Winners.
