BACKGAMMON
IN  CAMDEN

Tuesday 3rd July 2007

44 Entries, 6 Tournaments, 35 Players, £1240 Prize Fund,
Phil Churton wins the Jackpot.

In November 2005 Phil Churton won the Jackpot and he did it again this month too. This time it paid for a little holiday - very nice too - I bet he grinned every time he paid a bill wherever it was he went. Simon Morecroft came back to his Bg in Camden winning ways and took Tournament 2 which was a £40 entry event. Pete W's name keeps on cropping up on the winners boxes on the chart and this month he took Tournament 3.  Monica Beckerson, she of reel to reel bg film fame, showed she can still strut her stuff and won Tournament 4. Gary Sefton, on his first visit to BG in Camden, took Tournament 5 to welcome him aboard and that man Ray Kershaw took Tournament 6.

That other man, Mike Main, was now back in the North Island of New Zealand and still living for the moment so once again he failed to email Phil Simborg to ask for this months quiz. Instead he was in Kaponga, Taranaki running, can you believe it, a backgammon tournament over there. The venue was something else - it would never be granted a license in the UK - floors would give way when you step on them, there were holes in walls and windows, the electrics would blow every time there was a storm outside but for all that it had a charm that is wonderful. The Tournament was only a small one made up of the local players there but we had a good time all the same:

Summary:
On a less savoury note one player fell asleep in Camden during the evening. This is illegal - English law states that a sleeping person in a Public House is classified as a drunk and a person who is classified as a drunk is not permitted to remain in or on a Public House's premises. I hate to lay down the law but I will not permit any player to jeopardise other players enjoyment of the evenings let alone the hard work that both Adam Tansley and myself have put into bringing these backgammon evenings to London. Therefore that player is suspended from playing at the next Bg in Camden event - August 2007. Who is that player? That is not for public knowledge.

Of course Player feedback is vital, so if you have any comments of questions please do not hesitate to email or phone me:
