Phil C wins Jackpot.
Watch Man United play in the Champions League or go play at Bg in Camden?
49 players elected not to stay at home on a wet and rainy night to watch
the football but to go out and about in London Town to throw a few dice
around. That's the best turnout since Feb '07.
16 players lined up for the minimum £25 1st Tournament. It was when the
entry fee bidding got up to £70 that this was reduced to 8 players. Except
one of those eight didn't realise he was still in and didn't have the
where with all to enter but fortunately we had a late arrival who was
willing to snap up the seat. They set to play and those that had dropped
out played in a £40 entry fee Tournament. Next up where 19 players up for
a £10 Tournament, eagerly followed by 6 for a £5 entry Tournament. A few
minutes later another 8 players arrived to make our 48 active players by
7.30 pm. 1 other player arrived at 8.00 pm. and was slotted in in no time
at all. Whiz, wham, bham, roll'n'roll man.
Mr Adam Tansley was with us again this evening. Thanx and applause -
justly deserved - was given to Adam for running Bg in Camden in the
absence of myself for 7 months. I'd love to report that Adam won in his
first attempt in months but this I'm afraid would not be true - perhaps
he's out of practise.
However I can report that Mr Phil Churton did win the 1st Tournament - his
3rd 1st Tournament win. I expect he'll again jump on a plane to a
warm and sunny place for a few days. Sean Williams won T2 over Dan Boxall
at his first venture to Bg in Camden. Welcome aboard Dan and hope to see
you again. Talking of Williames (as I was) Sean's brother Mike was with us
for the first time this month and he too won a Tournament. And talking of
honourary Williames (as I am now) Sean's partner Zoe Cunningham also won a
Tournament. It's a good job Zoe's family play Settlers of Catan instead of
backgammon! Other winners of the evening were Martin Ba, Helen H-S (long
time no see - welcome back,) Mike I. picked up Bg in C another win,
Miranda saw off Brian W. at her second attempt, George M (who won
the September Gammonitis Intermediate Tournament) added to his good month
and Simon M. and Simon G. won 4 player events.
15 new Bg in Camden players this month - some old bg faces and some new. I
hope yous all enjoyed your evening and I look forward to seeing you again.
There's one player though that we'll probably not see for a while - Brian
Walker is back off to India in 3 weeks where he will be running backgammon
tournaments in Goa for the next few months. He'll let me know more details
shortly and you can expect a webpage on the Backpacker Backgammon website
about it so India sounds like a good English winter holiday destination.
I can't offer you a holiday destination of such distance but I can offer
you a weekend of excellent backgammon fun slightly closer to home very
soon.
BACKGAMMON LIVE IN LONDON
Fri 9th, Sat 10th, Sun 11th November 2007
This will be the 7th year of this event and it promises to be better fun
than ever.
The highlight of the weekend is going to be a 32 player Gang Tournament. A
what? A Gang Tournament. Wot's that?
Check it out here. There will also be a Boat Trip to see the Lord
Mayor's Fireworks Display, 2 Seminars (one by Chris Bray of the
Independent) and just in case you thought I'd forgotten to set up some
other backgammon tournaments - think again - there will be about 54 of
them. Registration for the event is now open and it's usually full 2 weeks
before the gig so please sign up asap to avoid disappointment.
