BACKGAMMON
IN  CAMDEN

This month’s quiz is all about math. That’s what most of backgammon boils down to, except of course for reading the psychology of your opponent. In the situation below, it is a money game and black holds a two cube and is on roll.

This position actually came up in a fairly good-sized money game recently, and Carter Mattig was black and I, and others, where white.

To win this week’s quiz, you have to get two parts correct, and then, of course, the tiebreaker if more than one get the two parts right.

Part 1: should black double?

Part 2: If black doubles, should white take, drop, or beaver?

Tie Breaker: what percentage of the time does black win from here, assuming he does not double?
