Knockout 32
A 32
Player "Come Back In For Free" Tournament
|
|
|
This was the first time I attempted to run online a
"Buy Back In" Knockout Tournament. It is a
format I've run a few times in live tournaments with great
success and I was keen to show it to online players to
encourage them to see how much fun live play can be. See
below for further details.
Most of the players who played have played in either my
online TTTs or Knockouts so there were very few problems
with them understanding how to use my webpages and the way
I run tournaments.
We had 17 players register which meant a little under 50%
re-entry possibility. The only real problem we encountered
was that the top half of the table (those that had won
though to the later rounds on their first attempt) had a
long wait for those that re-entered. However nobody
complained and I was free with drinks for waiting players
so I think it is safe to say that I got away with it and
the tournament was fully played in 2 hours 45 minutes.
This was within target as I never like a tournament to
take more than 3 hours which I consider to be players
maximum interest period.
Having now proved that the format can work online, next
time round I will make 1st entry matches 5 pointers and
re-entry matches 3 pointers. Whilst this means that
re-entry players might get an easier ride towards the
later rounds I think it will be out-weighed by the fact
that players will not be hanging around for quite so long.
If I make the Final a 7 pointer this should accommodate
the (probably) better players who have won though on 5
pointer matches.
Many, many, many congratulations to efulya who won her
third Knockout Tournament in a row (a hat-trick) and takes
away the Knockout 32 Trophy.

Players
who lose once will be offered "Come Back In" slots.
Lose again and, if all other Players have completed their first match
and there is still space,
Players can "Come Back In" again.
In this way we will have a full 32 entries in the Tournament.
N.B.
This Tournament is modeled on the Live Backgammon format of "buy
back in Knockout Tournaments".
In those Players pay to enter the tournament - and when knocked out pay
again to re-enter.
This means there will be a full prize fund from 32 players.
The prize fund is then split, usually, between the Semi-Finalist and
Finalist.
Nowadays many players are learning backgammon on the Internet
and then progress to Live Tournament play.
The idea of running this "Come Back In For Free" Tournament
is to show Internet Players what they might encounter in real life.
As such there is NO CHARGE to enter this "Come Back In For
Free" Tournament.
Good luck and enjoy !
