(Not in accordance with B.I.B.A. Rules of Play.)

To start:
Each player throw one die as in normal rules. On this "start throw" the winner can elect to either, take these two numbers as his first move or if he does not like that combination of numbers, he may pick up his die and throw his two dice. If he does the latter, he must use the latter.

Maximum five stones per point.
No piling them up over the length that the points actually are. Some claim this is a more skilful way of playing, Others (B.I.B.A. included) say it ruins the game. It is never used in Official Tournaments. It will make "bearing off" harder and will increase the likelihood of blots.

Fevga.
A Greek variation. Players play in opposite directions with all stones starting in opposite corners of the board. I stone is a block. You may only occupy maximum 5 point per quarter. Your first stone must move over to the other side of the board before any other stones move at all. Usual bearing-off rules apply.

Placoto.
Another Greek variation. Players play in opposite directions with all stones starting opposite each other. 1 stone on its own is a blot. If it is hit it stays where it is on the point, unable to move until released by the attacking stone moving off the point. Usual bearing-off rules apply.
