|Report Tric Trac Tourno 110|
In this TTT110 two TTT Virgins (GV_london and mysterydxl1) joined a formidable field of experienced TTTs Players. I thought it would be interesting to see how everybody fared and it certainly was.
I knew from personal experience the GV_london was no fool over a backgammon board for I had played her in the BIBA Brighton Tournament in January where, albeit with excellent rolls, she walloped me. I've also read her name on IBA and Gammonitis reports and I gather she's been kicking around with the John Clark brigade of backgammoners, so even though she is relatively new to the game, she has made her presence felt. But how would she fare without the cube? On her results in her 1st TTT not bad at all was the answer. 4 losses, 5 wins and 1 gammon is a very respectable return. One could argue a little short on gammons to be a contender for a podium position, but this is not an unusual factor for experienced b-g players in their 1st TTT. Having played in 1 TTT I'm sure GV_london now understands from experience the value of winning by gammons in TTTs and will adjust her play accordingly in her next TTT. One to watch I predict.
My background knowledge if mysterydxl1 is not so nearly comprehensive - in fact I know nigh on zilch about her - so I cannot comment on that. But her results in this TTT are not unimpressive - No losses by gammons/backgammons, 4 straight wins and a gammon are a good starting point and she too said she would be back for more.
Gipsen got off to the best possible start with a backgammon, but ichsein made sure this was not to be a runaway TTT by winning 2 gammons from his first 3 games. Gipsen replied by winning a gammon by his 4th game. Miraculi and GV_london kept in touch with a gammon a piece and we were looking like we might just have a high scoring and close TTT.
Meanwhile others were not faring so well - CKopmann was looking a likely contender for a bag of marbles (a Player that loses all their TTT games wins a bag of marbles) while ddf, Mac, Topaz and Stan will choose to not remember this TTT with great fondness.
Miraculi then showed his hand and won a gammon and backgammon. We had what looked like a four way (Miraculi, ichsein, gipsen and GV_london) race for the title. Gipsen and GV_london inched closer to ichsein and miraculi who took a breather.
Suddenly Mac made his move - 2 gammons in quick succession and if he continued on this sort of roll he'd be a real contender. GV_london had played quickly and now her score line didn't look so impressive as others caught up in matches played and won. Then the gammons started to flow - Topaz got her act together, Kopmann decided he didn't like the idea of a bag of marbles. Miraculi had been looking as if he might just squeeze past the winners line slightly ahead, but it was gipsen who dealt the killer blow with 2 gammons in his last two games. A late backgammon by ddf was not enough to upset gipsen's run as he cantered to an impressive win. Ichsein and miraculi could only gaze ahead in wonderment.
And so it was that we had a well contested TTT with a good score - a 30% gammon/backgammon rate is not to be sneezed at and comes close to the all time record of 39%.
Well played all.
CKopmann also saved and published all his games having run them through Snowie. They make interesting reading and go a long way to explaining why (usually but not tonight) he does well.
