When I arrived in the backgammon.it / TTT Room there were a few Mystery players having a tournament. What's going on here I thought ? The Mystery_T.D. was quick to open a chat channel with me, politely informed me that PM had said to use this room and that the Mystery organisation had been trying to contact me for about a week - I thought my email address was pretty well published. Did I mind if they ran a tournament alongside my tournament ? I explained that I would have 20 + players in this room in about 15 - 30 minutes and that I wasn't really keen. I was told that they would be done in 15 minutes. I really does make a T.D.s job a lot easier having just the players involved in a tournament playing in the room one is using. 30 minutes before kick off we had 17 players registered. Because of the questions being fired at me by the Mysteries I was struggling to keep pace with my TTT players and missed greeting a good number of players as they arrived. The last 3 players signed up and I missed dealing with at least 1 new potential TTT player and properly informing another player that they were our 1st reserve player. This was going to be a stressful TTT ! Efulya had pre-registered for this TTT but was in an IBA Final. She begged me to keep her seat and she would be along as soon as she could. TTT rules are that registered players must be present and playing in the TTT at least before all other players have played their first TTT game. Usually I private message any player still in another tournament with this rule but, you guessed it, I was struggling to keep pace so I didn't really have time to send type this to Efulya. Meanwhile KrazyKiwi offered to take over the bar. Brilliant. I always used to have a Bar Tender in the early days (as well as a Scorer) but it can be a pretty thankless task so I'm generally loathed to off load the job onto somebody else unless they offer to do it. Maybe I should reintroduce it - maybe I should foist it upon the previous TTT winner ! We kicked off a little late - I hate doing this - if I persistently start late how can I expect players to be on time ? Online Ontime should be to motto. But we were underway with 19 TTT players in the room, 1 registered reserve and unregistered reserve, oh and still a good few Mystery players too. Umm. Now that I had a little time I could address the Efulya still in the IBA Room situation. Miss_Lisino was waiting (as requested) patiently to see if Efulya would arrive in time. I was aware that Efulya was playing in a Final and as such would not want any interruptions but my hand was forced. I had to fully explain the TTT late players rules to her. I did so. Rapidly, as I did so, all other TTT players completed their first game and it was my sorry duty to inform Efulya that I had to give her seat away to the waiting reserve. Miss_Lisino was informed and I posted up an announcement to TTT146A players in the lobby that Miss_Lisino replaced Efulya as player 05. The good news for Efulya is that she went on, despite my private messaging her, to win the IBA Tournament. Congrats. At long last I had time to deal with the reports that had by now flooded through. My aim is to post updates every 5 - 7 games played - I had a stack of 19 or so games to get onto each scoresheet - would I ever catch up I wondered ? I just about had time to notice who might be winning but in all reality it was a case of playing catch up TTT reporting. Not ideal. New TTT player savethelynx was doing well, GV_london was in usual good form, Grant was not looking so hot tonight, netmusen (unusually with us for a Sunday TTT) was in good form, mazda had dragged himself out of the doldrums and was showing signs of being his former tower of strength. I was just about to catch up with all the reports when I got a fatal error message from my computer about my excel program. My cat went diving for cover as I blasphemed like an old sailor. A full reboot was needed. I've had my computer for about 5 years now, it's crashed in the last few tournaments I've run and I'm beginning to think that my friends are actually correct - maybe it's time for a new computer. I was unable to recover my excel scoresheets so I had to update the last few games manually and post scores in the lobby. We had our 6 finalists. GV_london looked as if she would win the Final Play-off. She finished first and left the other players chasing her score of 6.0. It looked increasingly unlikely that anybody would catch her. And on it looked as if a miracle or backgammon would be needed. Miss_Lisino didn't manage the miracle but she did manage the backgammon. She also finished on 6.0 points. And so to a Final Final play-off. Would it be a great game ? I hoped so. But it was not really to be. Miss_Lisino got a lead, prtected it, played safely and all she had to do was pray that GV_london didn't roll loads of box-cars. Box-cars were having an off day. So Miss_Lisino who had started the TTT as reserve player and waited patiently for a seat was rewarded with her first TTT win. Congrats. It was a scrappy TTT - I was under pressure from questions I could have done without from an organisation that were using the TTT room without my knowledge or consent and I never really got the TTT fully under control until the Final Play-off. Many thanx to KrazyKiwi for taking on the role of Bar Tender and thank you to all the players for their patience. I hope and trust you all enjoyed yourselves. |
